A Brief History of Randall-Reilly
The Early Days
Randall-Reilly was started in 1934 by Henry Pettus Randall Jr. It was launched as Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges, a prestigious recognition program that still thrives today.
In 1975 Award Company of America was founded, and the following year H. Pettus Randall III took over as president for his father.
Randall-Reilly purchased Overdrive in 1986, beginning our time in publishing. The next brand to join our ranks was Equipment World, with the next 20 years seeing the additions of brands such as Commercial Carrier Journal, Total Landscape Care, and Truck Parts & Service.
Other notable additions were Motor Media in 1990, Northbrook Publishing in 1996, and EDA in 1998. These acquisitions broadened our suite of advertising products allowing us to offer our clients more marketing value.
Moving to Data & Technology
In 2002 F. Michael Reilly assumed the role of president and continued the strategic push towards a data and technology driven company. 2004 saw the start of our Recruiting Media division, with the launch of Owner Operator/ Company Driver.

Brent Reilly took over the role as president in 2011, pushing forward with his father’s direction. Today our three divisions, Trucking, Recruiting, and Construction Media, are able to offer our 4000+ clients strategic data, media, and marketing services.
Excelling in his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama, Henry Pettus Randall Jr. attracted the attention of numerous honor societies, but membership dues prevented him from joining. Vowing to never again let financial restrictions prevent students from being honored for academic achievement, Randall launched Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges, a prestigious recognition program that still thrives today.
Award Company of America founded to provide world-class recognition and motivational products to thousands of organizations in the public and private sectors with a full line of plaques, trophies, ribbons, specialized greeting cards, as well as other promotional and specialty items.
Henry Pettus Randall’s son, H. Pettus Randall III, becomes president.
Overdrive, published since 1961, joins the Randall family of brands. Overdrive is the premier magazine for leased owner-operators and independent owner-operators. It presents business and equipment features relevant to the owner-operator trucker, as well as trucking news, truck driving jobs and other trucking industry information of interest to the independent contractor. Top Bid, which reports auction results on more than 78,000 pieces of equipment, trucks and trailers each year, launches. Top Bid’s Price Reference Guide helps reliably establish the value used equipment.
Equipment World, the leading monthly business journal for users of construction equipment, launches and quickly gains recognition for its its editorial integrity, circulation intelligence, and innovative advertising/marketing programs. Equipment World is the only publication in the industry with a data-driven circulation that allows it to prove exact equipment ownership (make, model, new, used) for more than 75 percent of the contractor firms that match its UCC-1 database.
Motor Media, exclusive provider of indoor signage at premium truck stops and travel centers nationwide, founded. With the industry’s only audited traffic numbers, Motor Media’s exclusive, coast-to-coast network of indoor signage can be seen at more than 750 premium travel centers nationwide and at the top 100 locations in Canada. Available products include posters, back-lit transparencies and phone frames.
Northbrook Publishing, headquartered in New Berlin, Wis., founded to provide Fortune 500 companies with custom publications under a business-to-business focus. Northbrook publishing also provides public relations support through annual reports, trade press relations and a variety of collateral material.
Equipmentworld.com, the online presence of Equipment World magazine, launches.
Equipment Data Associates, a database company since 1988 that mines data from UCC filings in construction, trucking, woodworking, farming, lift trucks and machine tools, joins the Randall family of brands. EDA is Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.
TruckStops Express, which delivers and displays publications and products to 1,800 truck stops nationwide, founded. TruckStops Express also services national truck stop vendors by stocking shelves, performing research, managing inventory and placing POP/POS materials, as well as performing product fulfillment, including credits and returns, secret shopper programs and customer tailored audits.
The company wins the contract to publish Truckers News, the No. 1 news and lifestyle magazine for over-the-road truckers and the official publication of NATSO.
The Great American Trucking Show launches in Dallas. GATS is the nation’s second-largest trucking trade show and offers attendees a wide variety of industry exhibitors and informational sessions. Find a job, attend free educational seminars, get the latest information from top industry leaders or see the amazing works of art at Overdrive’s Pride & Polish Truck Beauty Contest.
PNV.com joins the Randall family of brands as eTrucker.com, which features information for truckers and the trucking industry.
Commercial Carrier Journal, which provides business solutions for trucking professionals since 1911, joins the Randal family of brands. CCJ magazine covers fleet management topics ranging from technology, freight, logistics, equipment, and more.
F. Michael Reilly is named president and CEO.
Truckers News, the official publication of NATSO, joins the Randall-Reilly family of brands. Truckers News delivers the right mix of news, equipment, entertainment and lifestyle information to keep truckers reading month after month. It is a recipient of the prestigious Jesse H. Neal award and has garnered numerous regional and national awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors. Truckers News is distributed monthly at more than 1,000 premier truckstops and travel centers throughout the country.
Owner-Operator/Company Driver, a driver recruitment publication, launches. Owner Operator/Company Driver magazine has grown to the #1 driver recruiting publication in the industry based on total market share.

Randall Publishing officially becomes Randall-Reilly.
NextTruck, a bimonthly publication showcasing pre-owned trucks and trailers, launches. The NextTruck site focuses on a highly targeted advertising for trucks, trailers, parts and accessories, and industry services. NextTruckOnline.com offers one of the most innovative, user-friendly websites within the trucking industry.
Total Landscape Care, which serves the information needs of professional landscapers, launches. TotalLandscapeCare.com is an industry news and e-commerce website for green industry and landscaping professionals.
Truck Parts & Service, founded in 1996, joins the Randall-Reilly family of brands. It is the oldest and only monthly publication written and edited exclusively for the trucking aftermarket. Circulation includes the owners and top managers of medium- and heavy-duty truck parts distributors, service providers, specialized equipment distributors, and travel centers and truck and trailer dealers that offer service and parts sales.
Successful Dealer, a publication for truck and trailer dealers founded in 1978, joins the Randall-Reilly family of brands. Successful Dealer delivers innovation in sales, service and support to medium- and heavy-duty truck dealers, trailer dealers, truck renting and leasing companies and truck body and equipment distributors. Articles focus on helping dealers operate their businesses successfully by providing information on all aspects of dealership operation-new vehicle sales, used vehicle sales, parts sales, service sales, finance and insurance and body shop.
California Trucking Associations combines Truck Show Las Vegas with International Trucking Show, which is later named The Great West Truck Show. The Great West Truck Show is the only major truck show to serve the western United States. With more than 200 exhibitors representing the top companies in the trucking industry and more than 17,000 registered attendees.
Better Roads, which serves highway professional; Better Roads serves the information needs of governments and construction contractors involved in federal, state, county, city and township highway, road and bridge construction, winter maintenance, roadside and vegetation management and other highway-related projects.
Aggregates Manager, a publication for operations professionals in the aggregates field, purchased. like the Aggregates Manager brand. The aggregate market is a big market serving even bigger markets!
eVision Marketing Group joins Randall-Reilly as Interactive Media Division which offers customized programs for our partners, clients and advertisers. Because of our interactive capabilities, Randall-Reilly brands reach more decision-makers in the trucking industry than any other business-to-business media company.
Custom Rigs, a publication for truck customizing enthusiasts, launches.
Driver recruiting publications Driving Force, RPM for Truckers, and Big Rig Owner magazines joins the Randall-Reilly family of brands.
Investcorp acquires the company in conjunction with Randall-Reilly President and CEO F. Michael Reilly and other members of management.
Driver recruiting publication ProTrucker, founded in 1999, joins the Randall-Reilly family of brands. ProTrucker is an entertainment magazine where you can read about other drivers and their life on the road; their problems and how they handle them; issues of the day and the ever present humour that hopefully will put a smile on your face when you are far from home.
ProPickup, a bimonthly publication for owners who use pickups in their businesses, launches.
Commercial Vehicle Outlook Conference, a partnership between Randall-Reilly and the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association, debuts.
