January’s overall average cost per lead (CPL) dropped 11% month-over-month (MoM) to its second lowest level since last March (only August’s was lower). Through the first half of February, average CPL is on pace to decline further, but historically the trend has been for lead costs to tick upwards in the back half of the month.
In a recent survey by Truckers News, the most popular way for a driver to research a fleet was by talking to other drivers. The second most popular method was looking at online reviews from other drivers! Almost 70% of all research done by drivers is just finding out if other drivers would recommend your fleet! All signs point to your referral rate being the truest measurement of a driver’s sentiment towards your brand.

Demand for for-hire truck transportation exhibited an uptick on a seasonally adjusted basis in the fourth quarter of 2021 based on the for-hire trucking ton-mile index, an index assembled by Yem Bolumole at the University of Tennessee and myself based on linking output from 41 freight generating sectors identified from the Commodity Flow Survey.
